Many fine herds of Holstein, Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus and Ayr- shire cattle have been produced in Margate through the years, but the herd that has won the most prizes would no doubt be the fine Jersey herds of Frank Glydon and later T. Glydon and son Lorne.
MARGATE CHURCH HISTORY
Margate Church was organized and built in 1835. It was frequent- ly visited about the middle of the 19th century by ministers or laymen from Charlottetown and Bedeque.
Margate first appeared as the head of a Methodist circuit in the year 1858. During the early years of the newly established circuit the appointments were Margate, Stanley Bridge, Granville, Bowness School Hoiisse, Summerside, Port Hill and Fifteen Point. The church was rebuilt in 63.
This church according to available information had been in use for a period of thirty-five years. After it was demolished, services were held in the Orange Hall and in the Hall at Clinton — a community adjacent to Margate and from where many of the adherents and members of the con— gregation came and still do.
_ In the early seventies the appointments were Margate, Granville, Irishtown, Stanley Bridge, and Pleasant Valley.
In 1893 Granville, Pleasant Valley and Stanley Bridge became part Of the Granville Circuit, while Freetown was taken from Bedeque and added to Margate.
The first church was situated nearer the corner than the present church, which was built in 1898 by the M. F. Schurman Co., Ltd. at a total Cost of $2350.00. Interesting to note was the fact that this was the first contract under taken by this company.
