Extinct Homes
Early property owners, which are extinct today.
James Bryanton and family lived on the farm next to the present property of Wm. R. Thompson.
This farm is the beginning of the Margate District.
We have no knowledge of buildings near the road on this farm, but it is known that there was a house and barn, back from the road quite a distance.
One family that occupied this home for a few years was Mr. and Mrs. Ben DesRoches. He later moved to Long River.
The land was sold to Mr. John A. Thompson, Bill’s father, and an- other part to CC. Baker. Mr. Baker’s part is now owned by Andrew P. Johnson.
A home on the Keith Warren property was owned by Samuel Gly- don, brother of Frank Glydon. His wife was a Dennis. They moved to Western Canada.
Another home was located at the brook, on the Edwin Johnson property, today.
This was occupied by William B. Tupiln. His wife, Christina Rendle, came to P.E.I. in 1837. Later they moved to Kensington. Their son, Gordon married Fanny Haslam from Springfield.
John Howard
John Howard married Carrie MacMurdo from the western part of P.E.I. She died and he later married Bernice Henderson. There were five boys from this marriage, namely:
(a) Fred married Marjorie Heffel of Traveller’s Rest. He died Aug., 1957.
(b) George married Jessie MacDonald of Charlottetown and resides there. (c) Eric married Doris Crozier and he died Nov., 1969. (d) Denzil married in Toronto. He died February, 1969. (e) Wyman is married and resides in Toronto. John Howard died in 1961 and his wife, Bernice died in 1965. The farm and buildings are now owned by Willard Thompson.
Behind the home of Edwin Beairsto, on the Howard property was a house owned by Joseph Parsons.
It was next purchased by Russell Baker and then John Howard. 55
