The land was bought by Frank Glydon. The house was purchased by Frank Marks and moved down by the school. In the ’60’s the other buildings were torn down.
The house on the Thomas Fitzsimmons property was situated half- way back the lane. There was an apple orchard back there for years and it would be nearly opposite Ralph Adams’ home.
Mr. Fitzsimmons, his wife and family lived in this house. The girls were: Rebecca, Annie and Evelina.
Mr. Fitzsimmons sold a few acres of his farm near the Margate Road to Dr. Donald Darrach, who built a three storey home here. He mov- ed to Kensington later and sold the house and land back to Mr. Fitzsim- mons.
The property below the Margate Parsonage, now Ellsworth Cham— pion’s home, where Mrs. Stanley Sharpe lives was owned by George May- hew, grandfather of Mrs. Chester Howard. His buildings are all extinct today, but his home was the Post Office at one time.
A later owner of this home was Frank Major and Family.
A home located at the end of the Creek Road, below Mrs. Stanley Sharpe’s home, was occupied by George Hamilton, a sea captain, fisherman
and cobbler. He married a Miss Bryanton. Their children are: Jim, Millar, Lorena, Willard, William, Ralph and Ray.
This home was later owned by Louis Fitzsimmons and family of Long River. His children are: Mary; Althea; Irene; Leo; Anna and Mildred.
They moved from Margate and the house was later demolished. This land today is part of Mrs. Sharpe’s lot.
Thompson Johnson lived in a house below the present home of Noy Moase. His family included: John, Ernest, Melville, Edgar, Brewer and Orville.
Some of this family lived most of their lives in the community of Bedeque.
Families residing near the Black Horse Corner belonging to the Margate School District in early days and later were:
(a) Mr. and Mrs. John Paynter and family, namely: Florence (Mrs. Wm. Cousins) ; Mabel (Mrs. Alden Moase) and Sadie (Mrs. John Johnson).
(b) Mr. and Mrs. Underhill (nee Lockhart) lived in the building known as the “Black Horse Tavern”. This was after it was used as a tav- ern. Their family included: Church and Bessie.
