Life at St. Peter 's Under The Reverend G.W. Hodgson Even while the persecution of the Tractarian element within the Church of England took place in Charlottetown , work within St. Peter 's went ahead and a slow growth began to take shape, both in the numbers attending services and in the education of those members concerning Christian life and witness. The Rector, G.W. Hodgson , cultivated close relations between his congregation and the two other main Tractarian influenced churches in Canada , the Mission Church in Saint John New Brunswick , and the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Montreal. With his background in education the Reverend Mr. Hodgson was quick to realize the importance of sound teaching and instruction in the faith as a necessary base from which to encourage spiritual growth of individuals and of the Church congregation as a corporate body. To aid in this work, he organized and hosted a ten day mission at St. Peter 's conducted by Father Benson and Father O'Neill, of the Society of St. John the Evangelist. Official Opening of St. Peter 's Boys' School. Further advances in the field of education were achieved on January 7th, 1872 when St. Peter 's Boys' School was officially opened with the Benediction of the School House. It was opened initially as a Choir School and as a feeder school for the University of King's College, at Windsor Nova Scotia . This College (University) housed a School of Divinity and was seen as the natural source to supply local candidates for ordination to the Priesthood for the Anglican Church to work in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island . With the consecration of the new Anglican Cemetery completed by Bishop Binney in August of 1871, the Burial Grounds were ready to receive the remains of all who passed away. The first internment in the new Cemetery took place on February 22nd, 1872 when the body of Louisa Ridgeway was laid to rest there. Due to the state of disrepair of the old Parish Church Cemetery on , it was permanently closed at the end of the year with the last internment being the wife of Archibald MacNeill . 65
