The Rev'd. James Simpson , Port Credit, Ontario , 1886 — St. Peter 's Cathedral Archives Former Assistant Priest at St. Peter 's, the Reverend John Ellis (who left in 1877) offered his help in the task of finding and hiring an accredited Schoolmaster for the St. Peter 's Boys' School. With that task successfully completed, the congregation thanked Father Ellis formally during the Easter meeting of 1886 for the kind service rendered in the acquisition of the new schoolmaster. The first official function which the Reverend James Simpson was called upon to preside over was the official end of term closing ceremonies of the Boys' School for the 1886 Christmas holidays. The ceremony took place on December 19th, with Father Simpson distributing the prizes and making a short and "pleasing" address. 84
