The service for the laying of the cornerstone began at 2:30 pm. with a procession commencing from the Quadrangle and winding its way to the scene of the ceremony while singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" to Arthur Sullivan’s famous tune. The procession was composed of the St. Peter’s Choir, the Priests of St. Peter’s, the Bishop and his Chaplain, the Reverend S. Weston-J ones and the Reverend T.W. Johnstone.
