Incumbent, Rev. James Simpson , M.A . gave an excellent address upon the beauty of holiness and of worship, pointing out the value of Church adornment in suggesting subjects for meditation and for worship, and the particular lesson taught by the figures of the four Evangelists with that of our Redeemer in connection with the altar when the chief sacrament of the church is celebrated, namely that the Sacraments and the Word must be ever indissolubly maintained. The Reverend Gentleman warned his hearers against formalism and pointed out the assistance which the beauties of the adjuncts of Church worship may be made to furnish in spiritual communication and adoration.164 During the Annual Easter Congregational Meeting the matter of receiving a new boiler for the Church was delegated to the Ladies of the Congregation who agreed to undertake the project. The initial estimate of $200.00 proved to be much lower than the actual expense involved and by the Annual Meeting of the following year, the installation had been completed at a cost of $382.00. Of that total, $353.66 was subscribed by the congregation in answer to a special appeal issued by the Committee. Ladies of the Congregation contributed $200.83 towards the necessary repairs. Work was also needed to repair the Schools and the front of the Church, and to repaint the exterior of the Rectory. The Sunday School contributed $25.00 towards the Rectory expenses. Mr. Mellish moved that the Reverend James Simpson , Mr. R.T. Tanton and Mr. D.A.B. Warburton be recommended by the congregation for the Board of Governors of King's College Windsor , to represent the Archdeaconry of Prince Edward Island . This matter was overshadowed somewhat by the distinction bestowed upon the Priest Incumbent of St. Peter 's when it was announced by the Bishop of Nova Scotia that he was to be created a Canon of St. Peter 's Cathedral. The official ceremony took place on September 18th, 1907. Bishop Worrell visited St. Peter 's in July of the year and confirmed 14 candidates. The business of the Cathedral carried on as usual with the exception of the passing of several members of the Cathedral family. The most prominent of these was the Honorable Arthur Peters , late Premier and Attorney-General of the Province, who departed this life on January 29th. He was the first boy to be confirmed in St. Peter 's. St. Peter 's also suffered the loss of Mr. F.P. Carvell , one of the Trustees and leader of the Choir for 21 years, by his removal to Montreal. Several other families connected with the Hydrographical Survey were forced to relocate in Halifax . St. Peter 's also lost the services of its Assistant Priest, the Reverend Charles P . Harris, who left in order to take up a position at Port Medway, Nova Scotia . 164. The Daily Examiner. January 28th, 1906. 142
