Barbara, Benjamin, William and Betsy. They had been two years in Newfoundland before coming to P.E.I. and Baltic.
They had scarcely landed when tragedy entered their lives. One Sunday they left home to attend the Anglican Church in Burlington (St. Stephens). Two teen-aged boys were left home to keep house, one was their own son the other a young chap by the name of Warren, no doubt a relative of Mrs.
Champion. After their elders had departed, the boys went to the river and while on a raft were both tragically drowned. According to information
gathered from the late Otis Champion, this young Champion was the first person to be interred in the Peoples Cemetery, Malpeque.
The Champion name found in Spring Valley, Sea View, Malpeque and other parts of P.E.I. all had their origin from John and Barbara of “the
Baltic”.
