In the War of Independence, John Cousins refused to take up arms and came to Prince Edward Island with the other United Empire Loyalists about 1790. He was given a large tract of land in Park Corner and Burling- ton.
Dr. James MacGregor, one of the first Presbyterian ministers to visit the Island, mentions stopping at the home of John Cousins and holding services on his way from Cove Head to Princetown. It is thought he used the old
French name Couzens.
John Cousins married Mary Townsend, daughter of James Townsend, who emigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1775 and named Park Corner for
his estate in Berkshire, England.
