WALL
Arthur Wall, Baltic, married Mary Crozier and resided on the Crozier Road. Their home had been moved from Malpeque. Mr. Wall was a fisherman and carpenter. Their family were George, Jean and Jack. The Walls later moved to Darnley. George married Muriel Woodside, Baltic, resides in Darnley. Jean married William Beggs, resides in Halifax. Jack was killed in France in 1940.
WALSH (REG and JANIE)
Two of the more recent residents of the community are Reg and Janie Walsh. Both former residents of the island, they returned to Prince Edward Island in 1976, after Mr. Walsh retired from the carpentry business. Since September, 1976, they have rented a farmhouse from Robert Keir Cousins.
The Walshes have three daughters, Jamie (Mrs. Donald Gallant) living
in Ontario. Sandra (Mrs. Eldon Gallant) living in Borden, and June (Mrs. Garth Caseley) living in Spring Valley.
WARREN
Benjamin Warren was one of the first blacksmiths in this area (circa 1812). Before this people had to go to Covehead or Charlottetown around the shores to get their smith-work done. One man while chopping, broke his axe. He had to set out along the seashore ice to Covehead, thence to Tracadie, thence to the Hillsborough, and down that river to the city
carrying his winter’s wood-chopping implement on his back and return the same way.
WOODSIDE
The name Woodside dates back to 1770 when the decendants ancestors arrived from Campbellton, Scotland on the ship “Annabella”.
William Woodside and Janet Haywood were married after their arrival in this area and their son John H. was born in 1844 (d. 1921).
In 1869 he married Martha Sharpe (b. 1871, d. 1935) and they lived in Kelvin, then later moved to Ship Yard Road in Hamilton. (Big Marsh). Their son, Archibald, b. 187 1,-d. 1958 married Alice Clark, b. 1867, d. 1937 (on July 30, 1894). In 1896 he purchased land on the Base Line Road and _ built the present house, the carpenters were Robert and John Johnstone, some relation to Janet Haywood, they later moved to Vancouver, BC. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Woodside were diligent workers and built up a fine
property. Their family were Blanche, Ray, Clark, Amy, Frank, and Thelma.
Blanche (b. 1895) married Clifford Rogers, their children are Wendell
and Donald. She has since married Milton Carter and lives in Charlot- ' tetown. '
