and Licentiates, create an impressive list. They worked together with the conĀ¬ gregation in harmony and fellowship to promote improved welfare in both religious and secular affairs. The present minister is Rev. Gordon Walker . Baptist Church Dundas 1914 DUNDAS BAPTIST CHURCH The Baptist church in Dundas begun in 1872. Previous to this the community was visited by Rev. John Shaw , one of the first three appointed ministers on Prince Edward Island. He travelled from Brudenell and Montague to East Point . His diary from the Spring of 1870 records, "Today I went on foot the seven miles to the Scotch settlement ( Dundas ) to see the site secured for a new Baptist church there". This site was land secured from a member of the church, Samuel Martin . Before this they attended services at the Baptist Church in Annandale , then known as Lower Grand River . The next two years the church members gave time and money to gather material, to hire a carpenter, and to build the structure. The original building was dedicated on August 20, 1872. This building stood until 1914 when it was decided to carry out extensive renovations. This work was completed and dedicated in the fall of 1916. Unfortunately the names of the original church members from 1872 until 1882 were either lost or not recorded. However, church membership increased greatly in number around that time and it was stated in the Dundas United Baptist history of 1967 that among this group were the immediate ancestors of some of the present day members. 34
