George Edward Saville was born November 18, 1880, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Howlett) Saville, in St. Georges, Prince Edward Island. He was educated at public schools in St. Georges and Annandale and is remembered
by many residents as being a well educated and articulate man who read con- stantly.
Mr. Saville was a fisherman and farmer. He had been a lecturer on politics and other subjects since the age of fourteen and a correspondent for the news- paper since 1897. He was a candidate for the Legislature in the general elections of 1927 and 1931, and was elected in 1935, 1939, 1943, 1947, 1951, and 1959 — upwards to twenty five years of service in the Legislature.
He was first married to Alberta Huestis who died at age twenty four. They had one son, Robert. Mr. Saville later married Maggie 0., daughter of Joseph Chaffey, Little Pond. He lived in Annandale and later in Dundas until his death on May 6, 1961. Perhaps the most fitting memorial to the man is engraved on his headstone in the Annandale Baptist Cemetery.
“Here lies a man who never bartered what he believed was right for place or power”.
George Saville a man of great note in the area. Through his long years of service, he kept in touch with the local people and is a figure well noted in local folklore. One poem written concerned his fishing career.
