The old Manderson home, formerly a Crossman home—part of which had been hauled to the site, and a kitchen built on by William Crossman, and the barn, also built by William Crossman, have been torn down about 1970, and Mrs. John Manderson and family occupy a home built in 1948, a little north of the old homestead. The land holding remains the same.
MACLAURIN HISTORY
Humphrey MacLaurin, came to Canada with his wife, lsabella Fullerton and their family from Kilcreggan, Scotland, near Greenoch. The exact date they arrived on P.E.|. is not known. It is believed one child, John, was born in St. John, NB. The first authentic date known is 1843, when H. MacLaurin, who was a ship builder, made an agreement with one Phillip Baker, both of Bedeque, agreeing to build a vessel, specifications of vessel and cost etc. all in agreement. Part of his pay was in groceries; an d following are a few sample prices of the date- flour 2 pence half penny per lb.; oatmeal 16shi|lings and six pence per 112 lbs.; potatoes 1 shilling and four pence per bu., pork three pence, three farthings per lb. The next date is when an agreement was made between H. MacLaurin and James Yeo, whereby Jas. Yeo agrees to sell the farm known as the Ferry Farm, then occupied by Thos. Hopgood as tenant, to H. MacLaurin for sum of four hundred pounds, he paying for it by building a vessel, and taking possession of farm on March, 1846. Next authentic date is a deed dated January 19, 1876, when farm was deeded to Robert MacLaurin. Humphrey MacLaurin died about 1869. He died without a will, and had evidently not given Robert MacLaurin the deed, so business was fixed up by heirs; he, Robert, paying 474 pounds for the farm. The house was built in Princetown, now Malpeque, when that was going to be the main Prince County Town. It was hauled by 14 teams, across the ice.
