LEIGH AND RUBY CLARKE

Earliest available records show that James Lyle owned a part of this farm. In 1881 James Lyle left the land to his daughter Eliza and children, Eliza having married Alexander McCormack. Pauline, daughter of Eliza and Alexander, inherited the land and in 1896 she and her husband J.S. Ellis Carroll, then living in Dorchester, Massachusetts, sold it to James H. Sharp of Summerside. Mr. Sharp sold it to Neil MacQuarrie in 1902. In 1904 Mr. MacQuarrie sold it to Angus MacCormack. 1n the same year, 1904, Mr. MacCormack sold it to Edward Leslie Miller. In 1950 the farm was sold to Leigh Clarke, grandson of Edward Miller. The farm at present consists of

195 acres. Part of the holding, 63 acres, had originally been owned by‘

Thomas Lyle, but around the year 1889 Alexander Miller obtained the land from Mr. Lyle and lived on this part. It wasbought by Edward Leslie Miller in 1914. Alexander Miller, great-grandfather of Leigh Clarke, married Sarah MacMurdo. Their family were William, Annie, Percy, Lily, Henry, Edward and May. Son Edward, next owner, married Blanche Colwill of Northam. Children of this marriage were twins Maisey, who married lvan Clarke of Belmont, and Gladys, married to Eldon MacLean, now living in Charlottetown. Leigh Clark, son of Maisy and Ivan, the present owner, married Ruby Campbell’of Mt. Pleasant, and they have one daughter, Dianne, B.Sc. (Mt. A.) B.Ed. (U.P.E.l.), married Donald Murphy, B.B.A. (U.P.E.|.) of Kensington. They are presently living in Penticton, B.C., where Dianne is teaching school and Donnie is with the Dept. of Internal Revenue.

YEO Descendants of Jabez Yeo and his wife Sarah Large

In 1862 the property that-now belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rylance was owned by G. MacArthur. In 1880 it was sold to John Thomas. At that time there were 92 acres of land. Around 1906 the property was purchased by Samuel Henry yeo, who also bought his father-’s farm of about 60 acres in 1910. This 60 acres was part of the Nancy Yeo farm.

Jabez Yeo broght his land from Nancy Yeo, who came out from

England and settled in Lot 16. He married Sarah Large of Central Lot 16 and they had a family at three ~ Annie, Wesley and Samuel Henry. ANNIE -

married William Best of Belmont Lot 16. No children. WESLEY married Florence Thompson of Belmont Lot 16 and moved to North St. Eleanors. Wesley and Florence had three children BLANCHE, unmarried. LULU. Mrs. Simmons-Lul’s family are Keith, who married Joyce Hardy and their family are Roger, Kathie, Shelley and Korey. Kenneth, married Pauline Moose and their children are Wendy and Wayne. Clarence, married Sheila Woodside and their family are Marilym, Cheryl and Diane. Blanche, married Frank Haslam, children are Ronald, Harold and Vivan. One son,
