Hutchinson and family lived in the homefor ten years. Etta Hutchinson, the present owner, returned here from Montreal on her retirement and now lives in the home. Her brother Calvin lives with her.

A tragedy happened at the spring on this property, while it belonged to Ed Laughlin. A Mr. James Crossman lived on land now belonging to community pasture, next to Douglas Millar’s. He was a lumber dealer, and hauled huge timbers with a pair of oxen. On March 13, 1875, when he was 50 years of age, he returned from Summerside in the evening and went to get a bucket of water at this spring. At the time there was a cask in the spring, to bring water up past ground level. With snow and ice around, he evidently slipped in. When he did not return home, his son was sent to investigate, and found him, drowned.
