Lot 16 Couple Observe 73rd Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gardiner, as they celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary in 1952. Mr. Gardiner was 95 at the time, and his wife 90, and they still lived by themselvesin the home they founded shortly after their marriage. They had seven children: Florence, Mrs. William Millar; Annie, Mrs. Ben Pillman, Travellers Rest; Elsie, Mrs. Albert Shipherd, Washington State; Sadie, Mrs. Harry Murray, Boston, Leslie, George (d) and Thomas (d.) Of Alberta. Mrs. Gardiner was the former Adele Lyle of Central Lot 16. Mr. Gardiner was born at Cape Traverse, and moved to Lot 16 in 1876. As a boy he helped lay the first submarine cable between the Island and the mainland, and he also worked on the iceboats, receiving $2.75 per

crossing.
