0T HER PRESBYTERIAN YOUTH GROUPS In the years after 1925 the Presbyterian Mission Band was active with members in many households. Those who attended were children of school age. They used to meet on Saturday afternoons and among the leaders were Mrs. D.M. Bernard and Mrs. George Jardine. In later years, Young Explorers was a group for older children lead by Mrs. John Paynter. The younger children were eligible for “Children of the Church” whose leader was Mrs. Robert Jardine Sr. These organization’s were active for several years.

FREETOWN PRESBYTERIAN W.M.S. The first Womens Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church was organized shortly after the church was built in 1890.

It was the means whereby the women of the church would meet once a month to offer their devotions

to God in prayer and praise for the missionaries in both foreign and home mission fields. They would also raise money to support the work of the Missionaries in their various fields of evangelization.

Pioneer names in the Womens organization of the church in the early days were Aulds, Burns, Cairns, Campbells, J ardines, Reeves, Staverts, Taylors and others.

After church union in 1925, the Presbyterian Church continued and a W.M.S. was reorganized and has continued to be a strong missionary minded group, both spiritually and financially, as they continue to increase their givings towards spreading the gospel in home and foreign mission fields.

Life members in the Freetown W.M.S. are: Hazel Andrews, Bessie Bernard, Mattie Campbell, Joyce Campbell, Lottie Cairns, Doris Cairns, Janice Fourney, Bertie Jardine, Blanche Jardine, Marion Jardine, Lois Moase, Katie Nicholson, Gladys Paynter, Hazel Paynter, Annie Paynter.

To become a life member, a person or organization must donate $25.00 to the Missionary Society accompanied by a citation indicating the activities and the devotion of the member to the mission efforts

of the church.

In 1985 the president of the W.M.S. is Mrs. Robert J ardine Sr.; Secretary, Mrs. Walter P. Stavert; Treasurer, Mrs. John Paynter.

PRESBYTERIAN LADIES AID The Ladies Aid was formed to help provide for the needs of the local church. To send cards and comforts to the sick and needy and to help in the upkeep, repair and provision of certain aspects of the church.

This organization has been active for many years and meets monthly.

In 1985 the President is Mrs. Walter P. Stavert and the Secretary—Treasurer is Mrs. Howard Cairns.
