this time. In 1955, a motion passed to lay off three rows of plots 0n the south side of the cemetery and that range posts be placed at the division points.

The financial statement showed a good balance on hand at the end of 1954. In 1963 the Secretary- Treasurer, Robert C. Auld, passed away. He was succeeded by Henry Scales, but the minutes from 1963-1969 were not available. In 1969, Mr. R. Louis Cairns was appointed Secretary—Treasurer, and when he resigned,

due to ill health in 1975, the position was filled by Robert S.P. Jardine.

In the late 1960s, it was decided that all money raised by the sale of plots, and collections for Perpetual Care, be put into an investment account, and that a savings account be opened for the day to day operation of the cemetery. In 1970 the savings account was healthy, and it was reported that $900.00 had been invested. An appeal for funds was authorized by the annual meeting that year. By 1971, the investment fund had increased to $1700.00 and the running account had a surplus. Also in 1971, an all time interest, expense—free share in the Kensington Cemetery Company Vault for keeping remains during the winter months, was purchased by the Freetown Peoples’ Cemetery. In 1974, a new sign for the cemetery was authorized and placed in position.

In 1976, approval was given to purchase memorial cards to place in funeral homes, and for further efforts to solicit Perpetual Care Funds. In 1977, approval was given to have receipt books printed in the name of the cemetery to outline the responsbility of plot holders. In 1979, the directors stressed that monuments be placed in the cemetery at the head of plots in straight lines from north to south. It was later agreed to purchase sixty feet of land along the south side of the cemetery from Robert S.P. Jardine. Approval was also given to raise the cost of six grave plots to $100.00 each. In 1982, it was agreed to mark out the plots on the new addition and leave a road along the south side. Walter Campbell, Walter Stavert, Henry Reeves and Robert Jardine Jr. were added to the existing board. In 1983, the current account showed a surplus and $6400.00 invested in Guaranteed Investment Certificates.
