Flat feet and hammer toes,

With all the socks they’ve knitted Than anybody knows.

They hem three cornered garments For those who squall and cry And make no conscious effort To keep their powder dry.

Each time the stork is sighted There’s very little chance

Of that last minute scramble

For talc and rubber pants.

Fire victims have been many And needy not a few,

Who thank these kindly ladies For starting them anew.

In sale and contribution,

In auction, fudge and cake, These Freetown South go-getters Are always on the make.

They knit their gloves and sweaters, A bee—hive-busy bunch

Who would not miss the climax - A most prodigious lunch.

They look on folk as neighbours And every stranger friend And on this note we’re bringing These verses to an end.
