FARM RADIO FORUM This radio agricultural program was started in Lower Freetown to help the farmers in the area become better acquainted with the latest trends and techniques in agriculture. The meetings were started by Allison Profitt, and were held every second Monday evening, alternating from home to home. At 7:30 sharp, the radio would be turned on C.F.C.Y. to hear Lincoln Dewar give the most recent information on agriculture. Following this, those present would discuss the topics introduced by Mr. Dewar.

These twice monthly meetings started in January 1948 and ended in 1955.

The list below includes some of the members who attended these meetings.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison Profitt Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cairns

Mr. and Mrs. Allan Clow Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bernard Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reeves Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jardine Mr. and Mrs. Scott Cairns Mr. and Mrs. Basil Taylor

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Drummond Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Drummond

Henry Reeves would take a horse and bob sleigh, picking up the members along the way. The sleigh would be full of fresh straw and buffalo robes were used to keep everyone warm.

His daughter, Laura, would sit with him on the way up and sleep on the way home.

Laura can remember seeing foxes playing in the field belonging to Howard Cairns. Henry would sit on the seat driving the spirited “Lady Rose”, a beautiful jet black mare.

FREETOWN-BEDEQUE CAMERA CLUB This was the only rural camera club in the province in the early 19605. This club met the fourth Tuesday of each month at the homes of the twelve members in Freetown and Bedeque. The club promoted the improvement of photographic skills. Mrs. Louis Cairns and Mrs. Edwin Lewis were both active in this club. The photos which these ladies developed and collected will be a means of providing future generations something of the culture and way of life in that era.

Men enlisted in the 105th Battalion, 1915 Fred Reeves, Ernest Taylor, Horace Taylor, Eustace Reeves (sitting).
