Kensington Rec Center (on Saturday nights) and Kinkora High School. Other popular spots were: Athena High School, St. Paul's Parish Center (Summerside), the Prince County Vocational School (Summerside) and The Barn ( Park Corner ). Most young people would go to the dance with a friend or group of friends and occasionally with a boyfriend or girlfriend. The girls would sit in chairs along the walls and the boys would "cruise" around trying to build up confidence to ask a girl to dance. If he got real gutsy he may even ask if she would like a ride home. A fight would sometimes erupt when someone asked the wrong girl for a dance or if someone got a little too pushy. It was commonplace for the latest catchy phrase to be repeated at these dances. Phrases such as "let her rock" or "lets roll out" became very familiar. Several of these sayings were started by the local poet, Ross Reeves formerly of Ross's Corner and now of Lower Freetown . When the dance ended, a guy would take his girl or go with the boys for a scoff (lunch) in Summerside . The most popular spots were: The Sea -in at Wilmot, The Dixie Lee on Water St. in Summerside or The Canteen in St. Eleanors . If a guy was short on cash, he might opt for a bag of chips and a coke at a taxi stand. BROOMBALL Burns Chicks Ladies Broomball team were active in competition around 1975-1982.
