Gordon attended school in Lower Freetown, and worked on his fathers’ farm while growing up. Later Gordon farmed the Malone farm (code 125), which they had purchased. Ray Lidstone, Jardine Stavert and Gordon Burns operated a blacksmith shop for their own use.
They had six ch. surname Burns.

Walter Burns, son of Gordon and Melinda (Dammarell) Burns, b. 30 June 1897; d. 17 Jan. 1976; m. 27 Dec. 1921 in Regina, Sask. Martha Elizabeth Reeves, dau. of Joseph and Millicent (Somers) Reeves of Freetown. She was b. 16 May 1893.
Walter spent his early years in Lower Freetown, where he helped his uncle, Robert P. Burns on the farm. When World War I began, he enlisted and went overseas in 1917, as a member ofthe 78th. Highland Reserve. When the War ended, he stayed in France to help bury the soldiers, who had given their lives for their country. This task completed, Walter returned to Lower Freetown, and the family farm. In 1920, he went to Sask. on the Harvest Excursion, where he worked on various farms. In 1921 Walter and Martha bought 640 ac. of land and operated a mixed farm, in the Rouse School District, 14 miles from Imperial, Sask. which was the nearest town and Post Office. In 1949 they sold the farm in Sask., and moved back to Lower Freetown, where they purchased a farm from Edmund Burns (code 53).
Their two daughters remained in the West, where they were employed. Their son, Robert came with his parents to P.E.I. Walter and Martha retired in 1963, and moved to Freetown Village. After the death of Walter, Martha lived for a time with Robert and his family, but in 1981 she entered Summerset Manor,
Summerside. They had three ch. surname Burns.
