Nelson) most likely kept the mills on the property in running order, until he left Freetown to live in the western part of U.S.A. He proved to be mechanically inclined, and made a name for himself in Idaho, and other States, where he was known as an engineer who was well qualified in setting up gold mining equipment. He built a sawmill, and grist mill for his own use, on Pot Latch Creek. They had nine children, one of whom was the fourth white child born in Lewiston, Idaho, U.S.A.
WILLIAM BURNS William, son of John and Elizabeth Burns, b. 12 Nov. 1762 in Perthshire, Scotland; m. Barbara Burns
dau. of James and Barbara (Stewart) Burns. She was b. 26 Jan. 1788 in Scotland. According to tradition, William came from Scotland with his uncle, James Burns, who settled in Freetown in 1810. Records show that William returned to Scotland, but came back to P.E.I. with his wife and children sometime before 1822.
William and Barbara lived on the farm described in his will as ‘the lower shore farm’. It is not known when William and Barbara died, but his will was probated in 1850, and at that time, Barbara was probably still living. They had nine children, surname Burns.

Andrew came from Scotland with his parents and spent his life in Lower Freetown where he farmed land (code 64) on the Old Malpeque Road. They raised a family of nine children and followed the Presbyterian faith, surname Burns.
