He came to P.E.I , in 1832 with his uncle, John (Glen) Cairns (1787-1871) who was accompanied by his son William and his two widowed sisters: Auntie Ryan and Auntie Miller. On 25 Sept. 1833, John (Glen) Cairns bought 100 acres of land in Dunstaffnage owned in 1985 by John William Cairns . In 1840 he rented this land to his brother, Robert, on his arrival from Scotland with his wife and children and niece Janet (Jane), dau. of John (Glen) Cairns. Janet Cairns (1828-1917), single, came to Freetown in 1843 to live with her brother, John. Margaret Cairns (1831-1919), single, came to Freetown after the death of her parents in 1876. She lived with her brother John and sister Janet. + 2c Christopher Cairns Christopher, a son of Robert and Mary (Carruthers) Cairns, came to Freetown from Dunstaffnage ca. 1849. He settled on 150 acres of land located on the south side of the main (code 74). Christopher was b. in Dumfriesshire, Scotland in 1820. He m. Janet Roddick soon after moving to Freetown . She was b. 1828. Christopher and Janet (Roddick) Cairns had five children surname Cairns all b. in Freetown . 3a 2c Mary Jane b. 1853. On 17 Apr. 1878 she m. Christopher Cairns Proudfoot (1831-1890). Records state they lived in Freetown for a time before moving to . They had four children. Mary Jane d. 1924. 3b 2c John Andrew b. 1854. He m. Alice Waters , 20 June 1882 in Sask. She was b. 1855. They had twin daughters, Louise and Winnifred b. 1889. + 3e2c Christopher Cairns Christopher moved from his mother's farm home to a farm on the Road containing 122 acres, just west of the John Cairns farm (code 20). Here he lived till he was killed in an accident at the Mill Valley Light Plant in 1921. The twin daughters, Louise (1889-1954) and Winnifred (1889-1960), with their mother Isabella, left home at an early age. Christopher's mother Janet went to ca. 1890. His farm and his mother's are shown in Meacham 's 1880 Atlas under the name of Mrs. Janet Cairns . + 2e Robert Cairns Robert Cairns , the third son of Robert and Mary (Carruthers) Cairns, came to Freetown about 1854 and bought a farm of 180 acres on the west side of the old (code 7). Wendell Bernard resides on this property in 1985. Robert and his wife lived here. He was a prosperous farmer. Robert Cairns was b. in Scotland in 1823. He m. Isabella Stewart 17 Aug. 1853.
