She was a registered nurse and is now retired. 3e 2c Florence b. 7 Nov. 1913. She m. John Ambrose Curley and they had three children: Kevin Mary and David. Florence d. 25 Sept. 1975. (See Curley history.) + 3b2c George Croken George Croken took over the farm in Freetown , receiving about 75 acres in 1945 and about 50 acres in 1949 after his father's death. George and Marie stayed on the farm until ca. 1972 when they sold it and moved to , Charlottetown . Marie was a cook at Hillsborough Hospital and George has been employed at the K Mart in Sanitation Services. George and Marie (Reid) Croken had four children all b. in Freetown . 4a 3b2c Arnold b. 3 Sept. 1952; m. Ruth Maloney , Summerside . He works with Island Fiberglass Co. Wilmot Valley and Ruth is employed at Summerside Regional Services Centre (P.E.I. Gov 't.). 4b 3b2c Marion b. 25 Mar. 1954. She m. Joseph Deagle of Halifax, N.S. in 1982. They reside in Halifax N.S . where Marion is a nurse at Victoria General Hospital. 4c 3b2c Virginia b. 15 Apr. 1957. She m. Steven Shewchuk of Toronto , Ont. She is finishing a business course. They reside in Victoria, B.C . 4d 3b2c Peter b. 7 Jan. 1962. Single. He resides with his parents, and is taking a cabinet making course at Holland College. THOMAS CROKEN Thomas Croken known as " Tommy " was b. in Middleton near the intersection of the Wall's Road. It is believed that he attended Newton School. He worked as a carpenter and spent most of his life in Freetown as a bachelor. In his older days he moved a house on to a small lot on the property of Weston Francis in South Freetown and lived there until his death. He was a gentleman who took great pride in being well dressed and keeping up with the latest fashion. In his younger days he spent some time in the Boston area. In Freetown he made friends with the Henry Stetson family, especially Sim , John and Bertrum and was a regular visitor at the homes of Bruce Burns and Weston Francis . WILLIAM CROSBY William Crosby came to the Island of Saint John from , Ireland, with Governor Walter Patterson in 1770 and settled in Meadowbank . William's son, John b. 10 Apr. 1775 m. Sarah Clark 3 Nov. 1807. She was b. 17 July 1787. John d. 5 Jan. 1870 age 95 and Sarah d. 21 Feb. 1876 in Meadowbank . According to the family bible, they had eight children of which four settled in Freetown . They were: William, George, Edmund William and Charles Archibald . A daughter of William, Elizabeth Crosby , b. 1777 m. William Clark , a son of John Clark who owned a large acreage of land in Freetown . This is the William Clark who later bought Clark's Mills in Wilmot Valley from William Schurman the Loyalist . The Clarks who resided in Wilmot Valley (including Kenneth who presently lives there), are descendents of William Clark . William Crosby William Crosby bought 224 acres of land on the Road in 1849 (code 25). The Crosbys resided here until June 1857 when they sold it to John Reeves . Some of this land is still in possession of Reeves descendents. William Crosby was a brother of John Crosby whose sons, George, Edmund and Charles Crosby settled in Freetown . 250
