2f Lavinia Alice b. 27 Apr. 1860. She m. Rev. Samford B. Sweetser in 1889. She d. 5 May 1916 in Bathurst, NB. Her second husband was Rev. F.A. Wightman.

2g Priscilla Jane b. 24 Mar. 1861. She d. 8 Aug. 1865 in Freetown. 2f George Hedley b. 24 Aug. 1864. He [11. Elizabeth Bynon, believed to be from Tryon.

Charles Archibald Crosby Charles Archibald owned land in Freetown which was deeded to him by his father John Crosby, 21 July

1849 (two tracts 50 acres and 66 acres, possibly codes 29 and 88).

Charles Archibald was b. 12 Mar. 1823. He m. the eldest daughter of Hon. Donald Montgomery, Jane Townsend in Feb. 1856. Charles Archibald was a merchant and fisherman in New London, Lot 20 in later years. William Crosby, the other son believed to have moved to Freetown, was b. 24 April 1809. He d. 12

June 1828 at 19 years of age.

DAVID CROSSMAN David resided in Lower Freetown off the Old Malpeque Road (code 61 or 122). He was a cordwainer

or shoemaker, according to the 1841 census.

David was b. 1792 and m. Mary Morrell who was b. 1796. He d. 3 Feb. 1885 and she d. 26 Jan. 1895. They are bur. in Freetown United Church Cem.

In 1841 the records show they had six children with eight in the household, while in 1861 there were two in the house over sixty years of age. A further record of the children has not been found.

JAMES HENRY CROSSMAN James Henry Crossman known as “Henry” was a life long resident of Freetown village. He purchased

the house and lot that was in possession of Gustavus Dammarell (code 72). We have no account of where he came from or what year he settled in Freetown.

Henry was a cheerful witty man and liked to tell stories and chew tobacco. He was a regular visitor at the general store and had a favourite seat. He was a welcome guest wherever he went. He had a shop and tired wheels. He used the open type well for water all his life and never had a pump. He was an auctioneer and a veterinarian. In addition, he used to keep a stallion, and newspaper clippings related that he took

his horse to N.B. several springs. James Henry was b. in 1847. He rn. Eliza Knight a lady of English descent in 1868. She was b. 1842.

James and Eliza (Knight) Crossman had six children. Henry d. 1932. Eliza d. 12 Mar. 1936.

2a Adelaide m. Ben Sudsbury, Summerside and they had two children: Earl and Wylie.

2b Minnie m. William T. Starr. They lived in Belfast, Me., later Hartford, Conn. They had one daughter, Ellen. In later years, Minnie spent many summers in Freetown.

2c Frank b. 1873. He went to Topsham, Me., when a young man. He m. JosieSedgely. She d. in 1951. They had one son, Jerry, who resided in Portland, Me. He was a stone mason.

2d Blanche was m. and lived in New England.

2e Eurema b. 1879 in Freetown. She lived in the U.S.A. for many of the early years of her life. She spent her latter years in Freetown where she d. May 1972.

2f Harry b. 1885. He m. Blanche Francis who was b. 1897. Harry worked in the Boston area for several years. They lived in Borden, where he worked for C.N. Marine. He later retired in Freetown and d. 1959. Blanche d. in 1980. They are bur. in Freetown People’s Cem.

JOSHUA CROSSMAN Joshua Crossman was living on the corner of Old Malpeque Road and the Drummond Road on 32

acres (code 128). They were residing here in 1861 and were still there in 1886 when he sold to Henry Clark, who operated the salmon hatchery.
