ROBERT DAMMARELL
Robert Dammarell is believed to have been born in Exeter, Devonshire, England in 1808. He was a cartwright by trade and is believed to have spent some time in the State of Washington after his emigration from his native Devonshire. Around 1845, he left the State of Washington and arrived in Charlottetown, bringing his wife and five children. He followed his trade as cartwright in Lot 49 for some time before moving to Freetown. His wife Agnes Hanneford was b. Exeter and may have taught school there before coming to America. She followed this occupation for a time in America. In 1984, Robert E. Burns a descendent has in his possession some articles that Robert and Agnes (Hanneford) Dammarell brought out from England including a Grandfather’s clock a chest of drawers, a grindstone and other articles. Pictures of the clock and the grindstone appear on pages 257 and 258. It is believed that the Dammarells settled on the Drummond Road, known then as the Newtown Road on a farm which he leased about 1860 from Joseph Bell (code 118). This farm was later taken over by his son Robert J r., ca. 1881. Robert Sr. at his demise, passed it onto his son William John. In 1881 he transferred the property to Robert Jr. who left it to his son Edison. Edison
sold it to John Heffell in 1946.
