Ralph Gallant Ralph Gallant moved to Freetown from Duvar in 1960 and worked on the farm of Elwood Paynter. Ralph stayed in Freetown about fourteen years. He and Amelia and family now live in Kensington.

Urban Gallant Urban Gallant, a brother of Cyrus Gallant, lived in Freetown for several years and worked for Edwin

K. Lewis. In 1985, he lives on the Taylor Road in North Bedeque. Urban m. Mary Kathleen “Kaye” Farris 3 Feb. 1966. (See Farris history.)

William Gallant William Gallant, Tignish, came to Freetown to work for Edgar Reeves on the farm. After some time

he worked with Simmons and MacFarlane and lived in the house on the Silas MacFarlane farm (code 19). They moved to North Bay, Ont. and reside there.

William Gallant m. Gladys (Hatfield) Hatfield from N.S. They raised four children a, b, c, surname Hatfield, d, surname Gallant.

JOHN GARDINER _

John Gardiner and his wife Eunice Haszard came from Rhode Island, US. to the Isle of Saint John in 1786. He was a sixth generation Gardiner in New England. He was a descendant of George Gardiner who emigrated from England to New England and settled in the Rhode Island Colony.

John Gardiner acquired five hundred acres in Lot 5, which were conveyed to him by the proprietor Edward Lewis. This was his first land on the Island of Saint John. In 1791 he received Lot 88 in the third hundred of Charlotte Town, later he received a number of pasture lots in Charlotte Town Royalty.

John was b. c 1759 and d. 5 Jan. 1842. His wife Eunice was b. 1764 and d. in 1832.

They had ten children including twins, Thomas and Bowdoin b. 8 May 1796. Thomas m. Jane Catherine Warren, North River and settled in Chelton where they had eight children. Bowdoin m. Ann Howatt, Tryon and settled in Cape Traverse where several of the Gardiner descendants still reside and farm. They had twelve

children.

Bowdoin’s (Bowden) eldest son, Montague called Monty, was b. 1828 and d. 3 Nov. 1904 at the age of 76. He m. Martha Ackland ca (1841-1929), daughter of Richard and Grace Carver (Madge) Ackland. They farmed at Cape Traverse before moving to a farm in Lot 16, where they died and were buried. They had three sons and seven daughters; one son of whom, was John B. Gardiner.
