John B. Gardiner John B. Gardiner, b. in 1856, m. Mary Campbell, b. 1857, Victoria West. After living in Lot 16 for some years, he sold out and moved to Northam. They had six children as listed.
In 1916, John B. and Arthur C. Gardiner bought a farm in Lower Freetown (code 5) from Woodland Simmons. This farm was settled previously by Ralph Schurman, one of Isaac Schurman’s sons in 1848. Isaac Schurman was a son of William the Loyalist. Two of Isaac’s sons, Caleb and Peter also settled in Lower Freetown. Two Gardiner descendants, Prowse and Camden still live on this farm but the land is now owned by Brenton Gardiner of North Bedeque. Brenton is a descendant of Thomas Gardiner, one of the twins mentioned earlier. John B. was an active member of the community and the United Church at Freetown following 1925. John and Mary had six children.

2b Ethel b. 9 Sept. 1882. She m. Ernest Newcombe and they resided in Northam. He was b. 10 Mar. 1882 and d. 8 Feb. 1938. She d. 9 Apr. 1959. They had four children: Gardiner, Elton, William and Gwennyth.
2c Malcolm b. 1886. Resided in Northam. n.m. He died in 1968 and is buried in Freetown People’s Cem.
2d Sophia b. 19 Mar. 1889. She m. Roderick (called R.J.) MacNeill and resided in Tyne Valley. He was b. 24 Oct. 1867 and d. 20 Oct. 1926. She d. 4 Aug. 1967. They had six children: Wilton, Bea, Wendell, Doryse and Frederick.
2e Pearl b. 3 Oct. 1893. She m. Thomas Grigg and resided in Poplar Grove. Pearl d. 12 Feb. 1971. Thomas was b. 22 June 1887 and d. 3 Aug. 1975. They had three children: Eldon, Edith and Glenn.
2f Verna b. 30 Sept. 1896. n.m. She resides in Boston Mass.
