Hockey Club for over 20 years. He m. on 23 Mar. 1938, Florence Blanche Johnson, the daughter ofWaldon Brewer and Ida May (Johnson) Johnson. She was b. 17 Sept. 1919 at Central Bedeque. They farmed with his father at Freetown and resided in the family home. They were and remain active in their community affairs. Robert served as trustee and secretary of the Upper Freetown School District, Secretary of Dunk River Farmers’s Institute, board member of Prince County Hospital, director of Summerside Co—op Association, treasurer, manager and elder of Freetown Presbyterian Church.
Robert had to retire from active farming in 1961 due to poor health and he has since served as business secretary of Athena Regional High School (1962-1972), business supervisor Unit 2 School Board (1972-1974), and transportation supervisor Unit 2 School Board (1974-1982). Robert was instrumental in the formation of the Prince Edward Island School Trustee Association.
Robert and Blanche currently operate Jardine Farm Tourist Home and enjoy travelling. They had five children, surname Jardine, as follows, all but one born at Summerside.
5a4a3g2h Shirley Elizabeth Jardine Shirley was b. 17 Aug. 1938 at Freetown. She completed grade 10 at Upper Freetown School and then graduated from grade 11 at Kensington High School in 1955. She then obtained a position with The Canadian
Imperial Bank of Commerce in Summerside and served in various roles. She was active in Freetown Presbyterian Church and C.G.I.T.
She remained with the bank until 11 June, 1960 when she m. Gerald Davison J ohnstone son of Andrew C. and Anna (Davison) Johnstone of Long River, Gerald was b. on 18 Sept. 1930. Shirley and Gerald took up residence in Long River adjacent to his father’s farm. Gerald is employed as poultry fieldman with the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture. He also operates the family farm where they raise poultry in addition to other farm duties. Shirley is active in doing farm chores as well as in the activities of the Long River United Church where she has served as treasurer. She participates in active community organizations including the Women’s Institute.
Shirley and Gerald have four children. Surname Johnstone.
6a 5a4a3g2h James Robert (Jimmy) b. 4 Aug. 1961 at Summerside. He graduated from Kensington High School and is currently working on a large farming operation in Provost, Alta. and Morée, Australia.
6b 5a4a3g2h Barbara Ann b. 8 Oct. 1963 at Summerside. She graduated from Kensington High School and is currently employed at the P.E.I. Grain Elevator in Kensington.
6c 5a4a3g2h Donald Andrew b. 2 Nov. 1967 at Summerside. Donald is currently attending Kensington High School and is active on the family farm.
6d 5a4a3g2h Heather Elizabeth b. 12 Dec. 1968 at Summerside. Heather is currently attending Kensington High School.
5b4a3g2h Sandra Patricia Jardine
Sandra was b. 13 June 1941 at the Old Prince County Hosptial in Summerside. She grew up on the family farm where she learned to drive a tractor by the age of 6. She completed grade 10 at Upper Freetown School then graduated from grade 12 at Kensington High School in 1958. She then entered nurses training at the Prince County Hospital Nursing School from which she graduated as a registered nurse in 1961.
Sandra m. on 4 Nov. 1961. Rendal Floyd Caseley, a native of Wilmot Valley who was b. 20 May 1940, the son of Floyd and Georgie (Montgomery) Caseley. Sandra and Rendal took up residence in Kelvin Grove where they renovated an old farm home. Rendal is a potato farmer, skate sharpener, carpenter, wood worker
and confectionary vendor. Sandra is a registered nurse, working part time at Prince County Hospital, Summerside. In addition to her chores as a mother, is active in many organizations; Kelvin Grove Women’s Institute, Kensington United Church Women, Kensington Figure Skating Club, P.E.I. Section of the Canadian Figure Skating Association and Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics.
Rendal and Sandra have four children. Surname Caseley.
6a 5b4a3g2h Rendal Gregory b. 7 Sept. 1962 at Summerside. Greg has a degree in business administration from the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown. He m. Katherine Joyce Dykeman, the daughter of William H. Dykeman of York, 21 July 1984. They live in Kelvin Grove and have a
dau. Jennifer b. 18 Feb. 1985. They grow potatoes and operate a bridal boutique.
