4e 3a2i Shirley Annabelle. Shirley was b. 31 May 1932, educated in Freetown school; took a Laboratory Technician Course in Charlottetown. She worked in Charlottetown and Alberton. She m. Donald Bruce Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore, Pownal. Bruce was pastor of the Baptist Church at North Sydney, N.S. Highfield and West Lane churches in Moncton, NB. and is presently pastor of Devon Park Baptist Church, Fredericton, NB. They have three ch. surname Moore.

5a 4e3a2i Mary Lou b. 30 Aug. 1959; m. Charles Bird. Charles is a lawyer. Ch: Mary Katherine (Katie). 5b 4e3a2i Jo-Ann b. 28 June 1961. (a nurse). 5c 4e3a2i Rebecca Jane (Becky) b. 5 May 1964.

4f 3a2i Mary Elizabeth. Mary was b. 6 Apr. 1934. Educated in Freetown school. Mary, and her sisiter Shirley sang duets for concerts, when very young. Mary m. Charles Garth Linkletter, Linkletter Rd., 20 Aug. 1952. The Linkletters have large family operated farming interests, near Summerside, known as “Linkletter Farms”. They grow approximately 1,000 acres of potatoes and have invested in a Potato Packing Plant. They have five ch. surname Linkletter.

+2k Joseph Rogers Lewis

Joseph was b. 28 Feb. 1862, in Freetown. He was the youngest son of John and Sarah Lewis. He m. 1. Eliza Taylor, dau. of Peter and Charlotte (Scott) Taylor, 3 July, 1888. They lived on a farm in South Freetown on the Drummond road. The house was part of the old Lewis house that was hauled there and remodelled by Joe. Later, they sold it to Woodland Simmons. The Lewis brothers built three houses on adjoining farms,

along the Kinkora road; Jonah’s, Will’s and Joe’s. Joe sold that farm (part code 106) to Richard Simmons. Alvin Stetson bought it from Simmons’. Joe felt farm work was too hard for Eliza, so they moved to

Summerside. Joe worked in Lefurgey’s store. He built a house on Milton Avenue. They lived there two years. Eliza d. 31 May 1904, age 36, of typhoid pneumonia. Her brother, Scott, and her father, Peter, also died from it, all within a month. The coffins were placed outside on the lawn as it was too contagious for people to go in the house. Their dau., Sadie, also took it, but recovered. After Eliza’s death, Joe moved back to Freetown. He m. 2. Mary Ann Deacon, 6 Sept. 1906. Joe built the house in the village (part code 73) where they lived. Joe’s brother, Jim, taught him to play the banjo. Many a musical evening was enjoyed. He (1. 29 Mar. 1937. They are buried in Central Bedeque Baptist Cem.

Mary was the dau. of Marcus and Marion Deacon. She went to Boston in her early years and learned the dressmaking business. An item in the 1903 Journal reads: “Miss Mary Deacon has taken rooms over W.B. Mills’ store, in Summerside, where she is prepared to do dressmaking in all its branches. Perfect fit and satisfaction guaranteed”. After she moved to Freetown, she taught dressmaking in rooms she rented above Charles Beairsto’s tailorshop. Later, she sewed in her own home, and was the village dressmaker. She made wedding dresses for all the brides around. She kept fabrics and would order special ones on request. She was in great demand as a practical nurse, and helped bring many new babies into the world. She went to live with her dau. Enid, and son-in-law Clayton Thomas when her health failed. She d. 26 Dec. 1954.
