Grant drives for a delivery service. They live in North Tryon . SAMUEL LIDSTONE Samuel Lidstone was the first Lidstone to live in Freetown . They were natives of Devonshire , England . The name "Lidstone" originated from the old English custom of calling people after their vocation. "Lidstone" means maker of stone lids such as were used to close vaults or stone tombs. Samuel was a ship owner and sea captain . Samuel was b. in Devonshire in 1777. He m. Mary Davis , also of Devonshire , in 1804. Samuel and Mary (Davis) Lidstone had four children. After settling in Freetown he returned to the sea. + 2a Edward Abraham b. in 1806. He m. 1. Rhoda Bradshaw , a dau. of Isaac Bradshaw , an early Baptist Minister in Bedeque , and land owner in Freetown . Edward had five children that we know of. He m. 2. Susannah Bradshaw , a sister of Rhoda. 2b Mary Davis b. 1808 m. James Francis Kinlay . They had twelve ch. and lived at Cape Wolfe . She d. 1879. 2c Richardb. 1810m. 1. Barbara Burns , dau. of Andrew Burnsof Freetown . They lived in the Cape Wolfe area and had eleven children: Samuel; James B.; Elizabeth Brownson ; William; John Brownson ; Joseph Silliker ; Edward; Mary Catherine ; Jabez. He m. 2. Elizabeth, widow of John Ellis Locke . They had one son, Rev. Isaac Lidstone . 2d Simon Samuel . He m. Hannah Moore ; n.f.r. + 2a Edward Abraham Lidstone Edward and Rhoda had children as follows. 3a 2a Ebenezer b. 1835 and d. 1890. He m. Almira Corinda , dau. of James and Mary Polly (Strang) Van Buskirk of Freetown . They assisted in the establishment of the first Baptist Church in the Cape Wolfe area. They had six daughters and five sons. 3b 2a Charles b. 1837. Hem . Phoebe Jane , dau. of Ralph T Schurman of Lower Freetown , 190ct. 1876. She was b. 1848. Bedeque Baptist Church records show that Charles was clerk of the deacons in 1870. He and Jane joined the church in 1866. Jane and Charles moved to Gardiner, Me. In the 1880's Janes father's will shows that there was a son Walter. One informant remembers of hearing of a son, Rayworth (Schurman the Loyalist p. 124). + 3c 2a Isaac b. 1841. He m. Sarah Jane Lewis , daughter of John and Sarah (VanBuskirk) Lewis. Isaac d. 1924. 3d 2a Mary Ann m. Alexander Thomson . They lived in Cape Wolfe area. 3e 2a Emily b. 1843; n.m. +3c2a Isaac Lidstone Isaac and Sarah Jane farmed on the land (code 67) where Edwin Lewis resides in 1985. They sold and moved to Lower Freetown to the farm (code 123) on the Old . This farm is owned by Walter P. Stavert in 1985. Isaac and Sarah Jane had six ch. surname Lidstone. 4a 3c2a Henry b. 1860; m. Eliza Jane Cousins of Park Corner . She was b. 1864. They lived in Breadalbane for a time when he was a mail courier. He then moved to Boston where he worked on the Cars. They returned to Lower Freetown and lived across the road from Jesse Burns (1985). Later they retired in Bedeque . They had a daughter Amy who m. Robert P. Burns Sr. Henry d. 30 May and Eliza Jane d. 24 Aug. both in 1950. 4b 3c2a Jane Rhonda m. Albert Van Buskirk, son of Jacob VanBuskirk . They lived in Moncton, N.B. where they operated The Windsor Hotel. They had four daughters: Lulu, Vera, Gladys (Geldart) and Pansy. 327
