2b Horace Richard b. 16 July 1918. He m. Patricia Elizabeth Ramsay, Hamilton, 14 July 1940. She was b. 28 Feb. 1919. Horace was the first manager and operator of the RBI. Bag Co. Ltd., Summerside. He has an active interest in some other firms. He is active in many community organizations and in his church. They live in Summerside. They have two children.: 1. Richard Garth b. 8 Mar. 1943. He m. Lillian Ann Hogg, Wilmot Valley, 22 May 1965. She was b. 13 Aug. 1942. Ch.: (a) Lisa b. 10 Sept. 1966. (b) Richard Scott b. 25 May 1968. 2. Janet Elizabeth b. 1 May 1946. She m. Graham George Brown 20 Aug. 1976. They have two children: (a) Michael Graham b. 25 July 1979. (b) Christopher Richard b. 4 Mar. 1983.

MALCOLM MacINTOSH

Malcolm Maclntosh bought land in Freetown Village from Jabez Arbing on the 7th of Mar. 1885 (believed to be about 50 acres (code 72).) It extended from the Main Road in Freetown Village to the North Brook. In 1901, he bought 117 acres (code 19 west) from Maynard Schurman where Fred Paynter resides in 1985. He also purchased some land from John R. Thompson in 1907 believed to be in the village.

Malcolm was a shoemaker in Breadalbane in 1881. It is believed that he was b. in Hartsville in March

1853, the on of John and Isabella (MacDonald) Maclntosh. He m. Mary Morrison in 1879. They had one son John who was one year old in 1881. Another son Will was b. in Freetown ca. 1885. They had a third son Erni h. later.

Maynard Schurman worked for the same railroad in Colorado as Malcolm Maclntosh who brought home a large display picture of the trestle bridge that contained one million feet of Oregon pine. This picture hung in Schurman’s office in Summerside for years. Both Maynard and Malcolm helped build this bridge.

Malcolm had dreams of coming back to P.E.I. to live, however he finished his days with the CPR. in Mission City, B.C.

C.W., “Will”, states that he was b. in Freetown Village across the road from the blacksmith shop and general store. Will had two daughters: Lois, who was one of Lester B. Pearson’s secretaries when he was minister of External Affairs. She has travelled extensively around the world. His second daughter Jean rn. Gordon Switzer, secretary of the Dominion Rifle Association. They have two boys.

RODERICK MacKIN NON . Roderick MacKinnon moved to Freetown in 1979 and resides in the house on the property formerly owned by R. Louis Cairns now owned by William Cairns (code 13).

Roderick is the property supervisor for the Regional Administrative Unit #2 School Board in Summerside. He is also a member of The Summerside Y’s Men Club and a founding member of the Summerside Toastmaster’s Club.

Roderick was b. in Sydney, NS. 7 June 1949. The son of Martin W. MacKinnon, a retired Regional Director of the Veterans Land Act. Martin m. Florence Theresa MacMullin of Beaver Cove, Cape Breton, N.S.

Roderick is one of a family of six. He m. Carmel Patricia MacNeill in Summerside 19 June 1976. They are now divorced.

GORDON MacLEAN Gordon MacLean moved to Freetown in 1980, when he purchased the front part of the farm, and buildings facing on the main Freetown Road (code 36).

Gordon MacLean is stationed at C.F.B. in Summerside.

The main reason for purchasing this property was to keep race horses. The out buildings are all utilized in stabling horses and the acreage is fenced so that the horses can exercise and graze.

The MacLeans are actively involved in racing. Mrs. MacLean is clerk of the course at the Summerside Raceway. Gordon works with the computer, and puts the odds on the tote board, while Todd is employed with the photo finish apparatus. Scott grooms the horses, Todd trains and jogs them, and Darryl is an official driver.

Gordon and son Darryl are hockey players and are both goalies. Gordon was b. 21 Sept. 1939 at Chatham, N.B., the son of Adam and Ella May (Kitchen) MacLean. He m. Ina Irene Ackerman of Cornwall-On-Tweed England b. 11 Aug. 1943, the daughter of Lloyd L. and Patience Lottie (Scott) Ackerman at Foxmount, Ont., 5 Dec. 1959. They are affiliated with the United Church. They have four children, surname MacLean.
