AXEL MADSEN Axel was b. in Bornholm , Denmark. He came to Canada in 1929. The boat docked in Halifax, N.S. He intended to go on to Winnipeg, but as they were asking for volunteers to come to the Island, he decided to volunteer. He could not speak the English language. He had an interview with Walter Shaw , who directed him to Frank Cairns , Freetown . He started working in May, 1929, and worked for Frank Cairns for 14 months. He then worked for a time with Harry Linkletter , Rd. He came back to Freetown to work with Mrs. Douglas Jardine from 1934-1938. He took a diesel engineering course in Chicago. He moved to Toronto and joined the R.C.A.F He was with the R.C.A.F . for five years. He spent two of those years on duty in the Far East. He was a flight engineer. Flights were between Wales , Egypt, Ceylon and other areas. He retired in 1946 with the rank of flying officer. He then went with Trans Airlines as aircraft inspector, for twenty-nine years, until his retirement in 1974. He m. Emma Alice MacLennan , dau. of Murdock and Elizabeth (Biggar) MacLennan, Charlottetown . They live in Charlottetown . Ch.: Janet Elizabeth b. in 1949. She m. Keith Altass , 27 Aug. 1983. LEO MALLETT Leo Mallett came to Norboro ca. 1929 and lived with his uncle Henry Mallett . He began working for several farmers in the Freetown area soon after, including the late John A. Campbell , Austin A. Scales and the Edwards Company. He started a trucking business in 1937 and in 1941 he purchased an acre of land from Frank Reeves on the north side of the (code 39). He built a house on this lot and moved in before Christmas of the same year. He had two trucks on the road in 1944 and by 1958 he had expanded to four trucks. In 1965 he gave up the trucking business and began selling farm machinery for Hall Manufacturing Co. in Summerside . In 1971, he transferred to an International Agency in Kensington for one year, when he went to Midwest Sales and Service in Miscouche , where he continued for five years until he retired.
