Jean died suddenly from a massive coronary 13 Sept. 1959 in Clinton, where she had gone to her uncles

to get apples.

Clifton was b. 27 Oct. 1897 the son of Malcolm and Martha (Large) Matheson. He had four brothers

and three sisters. He m. Jean MacNutt, daughter of Charles and Emma MacNutt on the 23 Nov. 1921. She was b. in Kensington.

Clifton and Jean (MacNutt) Matheson had three ch:

Mary b. 2 Feb. 1928 at Kensington. She attended school in Freetown. She took her nurses training at the RBI. Hospital in Charlottetown and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1949. She m. Roderick Pratt, son of Chester and Olive Pratt, St. Peters, on 23 Nov. 1949. They live in St. Peters. Roddie Pratt is a sitting member of the RBI. Legislature and Minister of Fisheries and Labour in the Government of Premier James Lee. Mary did private nursing in Charlottetown, was a nurse at Kings County Memorial Hospital for ten years, and at Riverside manor for eight years. They have five ch: Halbert, Malcolm, Roderick, Barbara Jean and Janet.

Malcolm b. 9 Aug. 1930 at Freetown. He attended school in Freetown, one year at Prince of Wales College and Mt. Allison University in Sackville, N.B. He m. Shirley Carew of Hunter River, 18 Aug. 1953. They lived in Summerside, Charlottetown, Halifax, NS. and now in Dartmouth, N.S. Malcolm is employed with Investments Syndicate. They have one child, Lori Jean.

Ross b. 7 Apr. 1935 in Freetown. He attended school in Freetown. He m. Noreen MacPherson, Charlottetown in 1963. They live in Moncton, NB. Ross has been employed with Steeves Motors, and later with Standard Life Insurance. In 1984 they own and operate Lakeview Lodge in Cavendish. They have no children.

The earliest ancestor of the family in P.E.I. was believed to have been William Matthews who m. Elizabeth

Burgoyne in Charlottetown, 7 July 1840. Their ch: 1. William b. 13 Jan. 1842. 2. Edward b. 17 Oct. 1843. 3. Mary Jane b. 3 Mar. 1846. They were bapt. 26 May 1846 by Rev. L.C. Jenkins. (There were two other children of whom we have no record.)

William m. Mary Clow, dau. of Samuel and Jane (Threadgill) Clow of Wiltshire, 11 Feb. 1864. Mary

was b. 19 June 1845. William d. 1911 and Mary d. in 1927. They are both bur. at Princetown Road Cem. They had twelve ch: '

George David (Benjamin) b. 10 Aug. 1873 m. Lottie Diamond, Colville Road. They went to U.S. Nelson (Keir) b. 17 Aug. 1874.

Russell b. 10 Aug. 1875 m. Mary ____. George, Nelson and Russell emigrated to Minn., U.S. Elizabeth b. 12 Apr. 1876.

John b. 4 May 1877. He was b. deaf and dumb, lived in Hunter River. He d. 2 Nov. 1943 and is bur. in United Church Cem. in Freetown.

Samuel b. 17 Oct. 1880. He m. 1. Anna Belle Inglis. She d. 1923 when one of her daughters was b. Seymour b. 17 June 1887. Believed to have emigrated to Minn. In 1897, Edward purchased 80 ac. of land on the North Freetown Road (middle section of code 25).

Edward and some of his brothers resided here for about 6 years. Some of them went to school in Freetown. He sold the farm to H]. Campbell in Mar. 1903. Eustace Reeves owns this farm in 1985. Edward went to

Concord, NH. where he obtained employment.
