EDWARD MULLIGAN
Edward Mulligan emigrated from Ireland ca. 1850, at eight years of age, with his parents, and settled in the Bedeque area. They later moved to South Freetown where they leased or purchased a parcel of land 50 acres (code 89). In 1985 this is owned by Elmer McCourt. They lived here for many years. age 68 and Mary Ann (1. age 63. Edward and Mary Ann (MacL/ean) Mulligan had four ch: 2a Libby m. a Mr. Fennessey in Boston, Mass. where they settled. 2b Edith m. Thomas Power and settled in South Freetown. 2c Mary m. Michael McCourt and settled in South Freetown. +2d John Edward b. 14 May 1896. He m. Margaret Duffy, daughter of Thomas Duffy of Kinkora.
Mary Ann (MacLean) Mulligan d. at the age of 63. Following her death Edward m. 2. Annie Duffy from Kinkora and they had a family of two ch:
2e Florence b. in 1900. She m. John J. White of Emerald. He (1. 15 Mar. 1981. She resides in Summerside now. They had five ch: Raymond, Kathleen, Alfred, Dorothy and Donna.
2f Ray m. Annie McKenna and they reside in Winnipeg, Man.
+2d John Edward Mulligan
John Edward Mulligan farmed on the land (code 89) that was occupied by his father until he decided to go to Boston, Mass. ca. 1900. The farm is owned in 1985 by Elmer McCourt. John Edward secured employment in Boston in Guptils Shoe Factory where he remained for about 18 years. When he left he was inspector of shoes made in the factory. While he was in Boston he m. Margaret Duffy, a native of Kinkora. John Edward was unhappy in Boston and had a deep yearning to return to South Freetown and farm. In 1918 he returned and bought a farm nearby his former home from Mark Clow (codes 93 and 94). He resided there for the rest of his life. His son John Emery still resides there.

3b 2d Thomas Gregory b. 1909. He m. Lucy Agnes Kilbride, of Portage in 1943. Gregory owned 50 ac. (code 95) which he purchased from Joseph White, in 1942. Gregory sold it and purchased a farm in Summerfield from Peter Deighan. In 1963 he sold this farm and moved to Summerside. Gregory had also been a highway supervisor. Gregory and Lucy had three ch: 1. Phyllis b. May 1944. She rn. Vernon MacDonald, Wilmot, and have one son, Justin. 2. John Gregory b. 1948. He m. Mary Zeta DesRoches, Miscouche. They live in Wilmot Valley and have one son, Joseph Michael, b. Aug. 1978. 3. Paul, n.m. and resides at home. He is a courier for the Journal Pioneer in the rural area.
3c 2d Mary Catherine b. 1911. She m. St. Clair Croken of Emerald. They have a family of five: 1. Lorraine m. Robert Mulligan, Emerald, and have two children. 2. Norma m. Aden Sherry, Kinkora. They have three children. 3. St. Claire Jr. m. Meredith Murphy and have two children. 4. Arnold m. Joanne Green and have two children. 4. Lowell m. Catherine Smith and have three children.

John Emery Mulligan returned from Boston to South Freetown with his father and mother. He farmed for his entire life. In 1985 he rents most of the farm which he inherited from his father (code 94) except that he keeps some beef cattle. He also rents a second house near his home.
