+3b2f Walter James Simmons When Leslie F. Simmons moved to Summerside from Freetown in 1945, Walter James and his wife Georgie took over the residence on the Road, code 19 (west side). They lived here until 1951 when Walter and Georgie moved to a new home which they built in Travellers Rest . Fred and Lucy Paynter took over the Freetown property. Walter continued farming and participating in the Simmons and MacFarlane business operation. Walter and Edythe operated the business in the latter years until they sold out their interests in the land and buildings to the Irving Syndicate in 1980. In 1985 Walter is employed with Gulf Produce Co. in Summerside on the site recently occupied by Produce Co. Walter continues to maintain an interest in race horses and campaigns horses on the local tracks. He also is involved in fox ranching. Georgie is an active member of the ladies organization within the Baptist church. Woodland and Ethel (Auld) Simmons had four ch. surname Simmons all b. in Freetown . 2a Murray b. 1903: n.m. and worked on the farm. He was drowned in July 1934 at age 31. He, his mother, and brother were at the shore getting a load of mussel mud with their truck. The boys decided to have a dip. They went beyond their depth and being unable to swim, Murray drowned.
