Ross' Corner . He believed the land here to be more fertile and the opportunity to get it free hold was quite attractive. He later bought land in South Freetown ca. 1868 where many of his sons settled. The Stetsons adhered to the Methodist faith and were instrumental in supporting the building of the Methodist Church in Freetown . The Stetson boys were all farmers and kept their holdings in good condition. After church union in 1925 most of the Stetsons affiliated with the United Church. John Stetson was b. in England in 1788. He m. Mary Bell , the dau. of Vincent Bell, who had settled at Black River . She was b. in England in 1803. She came out from England on the same ship as her husband. They were m. in 1822. Their family of thirteen ch. were born in North Bedeque and Freetown surname Stetson. 2a Elizabeth b 4 Nov. 1823. The story goes that one day a few months after Elizabeth was born, her mother Mary got very lonesome for her home and her parents. So with Elizabeth in her arms, she walked the "Cowpath", now the Kinkora to , to Charlottetown and then to Black River . It is not known how long she stayed, but after a day or so she returned home. Elizabeth m. Robert Vessey and d. in 1880. 2b Andrew b in 1825; d. in 1910; n.m. He resided on the (code 109) where Melvin Stetson resides in 1984 In his latter days he lived with his nephew Samuel Drummond . A story is told that Andrew used to walk to R. R. Station once a month to set his watch by the R.R . timepiece. 2c Jane b. in 1827. She m. Mr. Hobbs and resided in the United States. 2d John b in 1829. He went to the United States. A story is told about John returning to P.E.I , after being away for a number of years. One day, while Mary was working about the house, a knock came to the door. Upon answering the door, Mary was greeted with a kiss from the man standing there. Mary was quite annoyed that a stranger would have the nerve to kiss her. She soon discovered that the stranger was her son, John, who had come from U.S.A . to visit his home. 2e Charity b in Nov. 1831. She m. James Drummond and resided on the (code 115). This property later was occupied by J. Eldon Drummond . (See Drummond history.) She d. in 1911. 2f Thomas b. in 1832. He m. Isabella MacGregor who was b. in 1821. They moved to Marshfield .
