James Wall was b. in 1819 at Freetown and m. Ann Laird before 1844. The Dunk River crosses the farm

of James Wall and has a bridge over it, that for a long time was known as “J.D. Wall’s bridge” or “Wall’s bridge”.

The family of James Wall changed from Presbyterian in religion (1861 census) to Methodist before the census. The Patron’s Directory for Meacham’s 1880 Atlas lists in Lot 26, James Wall at Wall’s Mill Road,

Freetown as a farmer and owner of a grist mill, saw and shingle mills. The Examiner of Nov. 28, 1890, records “At Newton, on the 9th inst. death of James Wall, age 71 years?

Of James Wall’s children, the following are listed.

2a Elijah W. b. in 1844 at Freetown m. 1. Mary Chappel. She d. on 8 Jan. 1873 age 25 and is bur. at Wilmot Valley. Elijah m. 2. Charlotte M. Hillson, dau. of George Hillson, on 2 June 1874. Elijah and Charlotte moved to Summerside in 1877. In the 1881 census, Elijah W. Wall is listed as a Baptist and a housejoiner in Lot 17. Elijah and Charlotte had four ch. surname Wall.

3a2a Ellennor E. b. 1879/ 80. Nothing is known about this family after the 1881 census.

2a Elizabeth Ann b. 11 Jan. 1851. She was not with James Wall’s family in the 1881 census. Perhaps she is that Elizabeth Ann Wall who in. William T. Grady on 5 Mar. 1874.

2a Evangeline b. 14 Dec. 1857. She was living with the James Wall family in Freetown during the 1881 census, n.f.r.

2a Abraham L. called (Abram) b. 23 June 1855 in Freetown. In 1879 he made an agreement to buy the farm of his uncle, David Wall. Abraham was living with his father’s family in the 1881 census. By 1884, Abraham Wall m. Theodosia Cook and they had at least four children b. at Freetown. They left Freetown for a farm in Lot 9 by 1904, then they joined their son Frederick in Salem, Mass. in 1919. Abraham d. in Danvers, Mass. on 29 Nov. 1931. Theodosia was still living in Danvers in 1941, at age 80.

3d2a Frederick L. Wall m. Alice Hunter before 1911. Frederick moved from Freetown to Salem, Mass. In Salem, Frederick and Alice Wall had two sons: 1. Emerson A. Wall b. in Sept. 1911 and 2. Reginald Wall b. 1913. They moved to Danvers, Mass. by 1920. Alice d. in 1929. Frederick Wall was a truck man and he d. in 1953 at Beverly, Mass. and is bur. at Walnut Grove Cem. Danvers, Mass. as was his father Abraham L. Wall in 1931.

3d2a William C. Wall m. Dorothy Evans. William moved from Freetown to North Turner, Me. before 1928. He was an auto repairman; and had a service station and garage at North Turner. In the 1928 directory there was a Lillian Wall living with William C. Wall. Robert and Blanche J ardine with Cecil and Mae Reeves, visited William at North Turner, Me. in 1954. William d. 20 Apr. 1956 aged, 68 yrs.

3d2a Tom Wall is believed to have moved from Freetown to Alberta.

3d2a ( ? ) a daughter is recorded of whom we have no detail.

2a John Wall bapt. 1865. He may have died young since he was not listed with James Wall’s family at Freetown in 1881 census.

2a Job Smith Wall b. 28 Dec. 1865. Bapt. 2 Nov. 1871 in Bedeque Methodist Church. He may have died young as he was not listed in 1881 census.

Archibald Wall. It is possible that Archibald Wall was also a son of James and Ann Wall, but he was not listed in 1881 census. Archibald was a resident of Newton, when their second child was bapt. in 1883. He m. Rebecca , a resident of NS. They had two children: 1. Ulric b. 1879 and 2. Jessie b. 1880 both bapt. in Bedeque.

David Wall
