GARNET WARREN Garnet Warren came to Freetown in 1927, in response to an advertisement for a farm foreman in the local newspaper by Austin A. Scales . Garnet had been employed at Protestant Orphanage farm, and later at Eliphalet Howatt 's farm in Darlington . Garnet continued as foreman both on the farm and on the Scales Hydro Electric Power lines until they were sold. He then became a mail courier in Freetown until the mail routes were amalgamated into one route ca. 1975. He also operated the store, that was moved across the road from its original site, where it was operated by Von MacCaull . Garnet was a handy man, and had an interest in horses and livestock. He was generally available as a local veterinarian. He and his son George had a race horse "Gliding Billy " who campaigned on local island tracks. Garnet was the son of John and Flora (McFadyen) Warren of Springbrook . He m. 1. Lenora Lucia (Heron) Haslam 10 Sept. 1927 and moved to Freetown where he lived in the James Smith house, near the , then owned by Austin Scales . Garnet lived here until ca. 1940 when he moved to the Sterling Burns house in the village. Isobel Haslam moved to Freetown with her mother Lena and went to school. Isobel was b. 29 Dec. 1915. She attended Prince of Wales College following her years in Freetown School and then trained for an R.N . in PC . Hospital . She m. Alwyn Gay in 1938. He was b. 19 Apr. 1914 and d. 22 Dec. 1969.
