The amount of migration from Kinkora is difficult to measure exactly. In the 1870*s and 1880's many students from Kinkora became teachers and found jobs in Island schools. The number obtaining teaching licenses in the 1890's and the first decade of the twentieth century dropped dramatically, as can be seen in Appendix A. An apparently attractive alternative was the religious profession. In 1894 eight men from the parish joined a Catholic Brotherhood in New State. (39) In 1899 John T. Murphy , brother of Dr. Patrick C Murphy, was ordained a priest in Rome; he was the first priest from the parish. (40) In 1900 two young women from Kinkora joined the Sisters of St . Joseph in Minneapolis.(41) There is no record of men moving to western Canada to take advantage of the opportunities in farming and gold mining. Nor do the number of voters in Kinkora change significantly over the two decades, as Table 17 shows.
