Women 's Institute Anniversaries During the regular monthly meeting in October, 1948, the ladies decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary by entertaining the members and their husbands. Plans were made and a committee of Mrs. Pat Horgan , Mrs. Alvin MacLauchlan , Mrs. Lewis Kielly and Mrs. Malcolm MacLauchlan was appointed to prepare the program. Members contributed 25< C each towards buying materials for the cake, which was made by Mesdames James MacLauchlan , Bruce Ellis and Ray Carr , and decorated with our W.I . colors of blue and gold. Mrs. Ray Carr was hostess on the evening of October 29, 1948, when we gathered at her home to enjoy our party. Games and a sing?? song took place, after which the President, Mrs. John Misener , gave a short speech, blew out the candles, and cut the cake. Following this, everyone partook of the delicious buffet supper. In conclusion, a "thank you" was moved by Mrs. Thomas McCabe and presented to the ladies by Mr. Pat Horgan . Everyone returned home with a memory of a wonderful evening. The Stanhope W.I . celebrated its 25th anniversary on October 2, 1953, with a banquet held at Seaside Inn. Eleven charter members were present, the dining room was decorated in the Institute colours of blue and gold, and a three-tier birthday cake, also decorated in blue and gold centred the head table. After the delicious meal, the toast- mistress, Mrs. Alvin MacLauchlan , called for a toast, "The Queen" responded to by singing "The Queen". Mrs. Horace Marshall gave the toast to the charter members, responded to by Mrs. Thomas McCabe ; Mrs. Harry MacLauchlan proposed a toast to the men, responded to by Mr. Patrick Horgan . A two-minute silence was observed in memory of departed members. The birthday cake was cut by the 1928 Vice- President, Mrs. Aeneas MacDonald , and the 1953 President, Mrs. Patrick Horgan ; music and a social time followed. The 35th anniversary of the Stanhope W.I . was celebrated on October 5, 1963, with a banquet at the Stanhope- Hall. Guests included Mrs. Helen Herring , charter members, and Senior Citizens of the district and husbands. The tables were decorated with fall flowers and coloured leaves. A three-tier anniversary cake decorated in blue and gold by Mrs. John Misener centred the head table. Mr. Ray Carr said grace, a one minute silence was observed in memory of departed members, and a delicious turkey supper was enjoyed; the young ladies of the community waited on tables and entertained the gathering after supper with songs and poetry.
