The North Shore C.I.C. is now known as the North Shore Com- munity; the name was proclaimed on November 1, 1983 under the new Municipal Act; under this Act, a public meeting Will be held in March of each year to vote on the proposed budget, and election of Coun- cillors will be every three years, starting in November, 1984. There are twelve Councillors — four from each of the three areas — who meet each month to discuss area business. Councillors for Stanhope are Fred Connolly, Jim Honsberger, Dorothy Johnston, and Lawrence Quick. The North Shore Community gives financial support to the Brownies, Girl Guides and the Stanhope-Covehead Community Hall. The C.I.C. sponsored the First North Shore Scouts, Cubs and Beavers under the charter (60) renewed in 1976.
North Shore Rural Community Fire Company
At the annual meeting of the North Shore Community Improvement Committee on February 28, 1979, the executive was empowered to proceed with establishing fire services for the area, and a Fire Com- mittee was set up within the 0.1.0.. A charter to incorporate the North Shore Rural Fire Company was granted in June, 1979, signed by ten members of the districts involved (Stanhope, West Covehead, Cove- head Road). Officers and directors were nominated as follows:

A half-acre site for the Fire Hall was purchased from William Vanderaa on the Covehead Road for $2,500. The Fire Hall, a steel building on a cement foundation, was supplied and erected by the Hillsborough Construction Co. for $26,500. A fire truck and accessory equipment was purchased from Wrand’s Fire Equipment Co. of Dartmouth, N .S. at a cost of $40,200. Twenty firemen’s outfits were bought from the Montague Fire Department for $800.
Financing was provided by:
1. An organisational grant of $1000 from the Department of
Municipal Affairs.
2. A loan from Central and Eastern Trust of $70,000.
