In 1977 Joe Reardon, Jim Horgan and Fred Morrison played with the Charlottetown Fawcetts in the Senior Men’s Championship in Hull, Quebec; and in 1978 the Tack Room Cee Bees represented P.E.Ii.in the senior competition at Saint John, N .B., when Joe Reardon and Fred and Frank Morrison all played important roles on the team.
Stanhope also had several female representatives on Island teams in national competitions; Marlene Robison, Rena MacLauchlan and Janet and Norma Ellis played with the Fairyland Sisters when they represented P.E.I. at the national level in junior and senior softball.
The popularity of softball continued to grow. A four-team recreational league for men was organised in 1975. From this base a local team was chosen to enter the Metro League in Charlottetown. During 1977 and 1978 this team was known as “Ernie’s Mufflers” and members included: Cecil MacLauchlan, Don and Preston Ellis, Alan MacLauchlan, Mike and Ed Reardon, Linus Misener, Lorne, Misener, Bill Wamboldt, Larry MacKinnon, Lewis Marshall, Alan Peters, David MacDougall and coach Mervyn Robison. Gordie Ellis and Jim Horgan joined the team in 197 8. A second local team joined the Metro League in 1978; they were known as the Stanhope Beach Lodge Juvenile Gee Bees, and members included Mike Misener, Kevin McCabe, Shane MacDougall, and from York Robbie Vessey, John Coles and Paul Arsenault. ‘
