Montgomery’s bog was drained and land-filled in 1969 to create

on a 250 foot floating footbridge; and man-made lakes were created in four locations. A building (Thymewood) was bought from Harry Kielly and moved to the site of the former Horgan and Leitch farmhouse for use as a club house; and for canteen service, a “Swiss Chalet” was purchased.
The course was officially opened on June 6, 1970, with Mr. Harry Bartlett as manager for that year and the next; subsequent managers have been: — N es Shewchuk, Gerard Watts, James Honsberger and David Edgett. Superintendent of the course since its inception in 1969 is Gideon MacLauchan; the greenskeepers, Patrick Horgan and Harold Hughes, have been with the course since 1969 as well.
In the summer of 1970, the Parson’s Creek Lake was stocked with 4000 speckled trout from the Cardigan Fish Hatchery; a culvert was placed in the causeway leading out into Covehead Bay so that fish might enter and leave the lake at will. In 1973 the road from the highway to the Clubhouse was paved; and from 1980 to 1982 over 400 ornamental trees were planted to divide fairways and generally enhance the appearance of the course; also to replace trees which had succumbed to the changes incurred when swamps were drained. etc.
In 1981 the directors decided to construct a new clubhouse, with kitchen included, to serve the increasing needs of its members. The
