BRODIE

This name is from the place name Brodie, in Gaelic “brothach”, in the county of Moray, Scotland, the home of the Brodies since the 12th century; they were given lands by Malcolm IV in about 1 160. The old Brodie castle was burned in 1645 and many family papers were destroyed; tradition has it that the family dates back to Alexander III
