Stanhope until December, 1898, when they sold their farm to John R. Gill and went to live and farm in York; Peter died there and is buried in York cemetery.
James and John Brodie, Peter’s brothers, bought 61/2 and 1 1/2 acres respectively from Peter in 1881 but did not build, later selling both pieces of land to Isaac Lawson. The other brother, George Washington Brodie, moved to the United States; he was known by his second name here in Stanhope, but when he went to the States he was advised to use his first name, as he would be in trouble with the name
“Washington”. Before leaving here he helped to build Stanhope Presbyterian Church, in 1880.

Footnote: Louisa Ann Brodie married 2nd an old pensioner by the name of Mr. Robert Florence, who was not very well-liked by the Brodie family and was later evicted.

The first marriage among the Falmouth settlers took place on December 21, 1770 between Lawrence Brown, a weaver from Ayrshire, and Jean J amieson, daughter of John J amieson from Perthshire.
