using a stumping machine; a hip roof was added and it became the home of Sid (Celestin) Gauthier, who worked in the lobster factory and married Charles' daughter Rose. In 1937 the expropriated 47 acres of the Shore part of the farm, for which Charles Burt was paid $1,500. Various other portions of land were sold, and in 1939 the remaining 34 V 2 acres were deeded by Charles Burt to his daughters Mabel Owen (wife of Benjamin Owen ) and Clara Burt ; the latter deeded the property to her brother Leith Burt , who eventually (1948) sold 25 acres of land, with the homestead, to James and Minnie MacFadyen, for $3000. The MacFadyens, with Dorothy Douglas , operated the property as a tourist home, under the name of Kiloran Lodge. In 1967 the property was sold to Hector MacDougall et al. DIAZ Mabel Burt , born in 1902 in Seaview, P.E.I. , was married to Benjamin Owen in 1920, lived in the United States for a number of years, was married to Foster Diaz in 1943, and returned to Stanhope in 1957; at this time she bought V /t acres of land on the from Bertram Misener . In 1957-8 a house was built by Stanley Purser and Watson Ross and in 1959 Mabel purchased another 3A acre from Bert Misener . In 1965 she deeded 12,000 square feet of land to her sister, Mrs. Louise Mangan , who then built a house also, and lives there with another sister, Clara Burt . Mabel moved to in 1982, renting her house to Michael and Lori ( MacDougall ) Fagan; she has lived in Charlottetown since 1983. 293
