Eleanor Misener , on the north-west side of Stanhope School, part of land formerly owned by the Hudson family and before that leased by Martin Power from the heirs of Sir James Montgomery , proprietor of Lot 34. In October, 1962, the Grants purchased two more plots of land adjacent to their one acre. Mr. Grant was now retired from his dealership in Hides and Skins in New York , and they decided to build a cottage with a basement under and insulated for winter use. They planned to live here year-round later, but this was not to be, for Theodore Grant died very suddenly in October, 1963. For the next few years Helen Grant did not return to the cottage, but made it available during the summers for some of her friends. She also bought a further piece of land behind her house, towards . Eventually she returned; first, for just the summer, and then for most of the year, until she became ill and had to go to a nursing home, where she died on February 24,1978. The Grants' family of two daughters and a son visited their parents here. Barbara married Jerry Johnston and lives in Kansas City; the other daughter lives in New York ; and Ted married Edith Barrett and is living in Virginia. The house and land was sold to Anna Maloney in the spring of 1980. GREEN Tradition says that about 1830 Henry Garnham Green and his wife Susanna Burges came from Manningtree, Essex, England to , P.E.I. , later settling in Stanhope . In the census of 1841 this family is living on the in Stanhope ; there were 7 males under 16 years of age and one aged 45-60; and 3 females under 16 years and one aged 16-45. Of this total of 12 persons, 8 were natives of England and 4 had been born in P.E.I. ; the Greens brought 6 children with them from England . Henry was a currier as well as a farmer. Henry Garnham Green was born on March 25, 1801, and died on January 26,1887; he was the son of Roger and Lucy (Garnham) Green. His wife Susanna, born on February 10, 1803 and died on December 11, 1851, was the daughter of James and Mary Burges . Henry and Susanna, both of Manningtree in Essex, were married on January 6, 1822, by the Rev. Black , curate of St. Andrew's, Holborn, London. On November 21, 1844 Henry Green leased 46x/2 acres of land from the Montgomery brothers.
