In 1907 Thomas Horgan married Sarah Anne McCabe, who was born on October 7, 1885, the daughter of James and Mary Anne (Flynn) McCabe of Stanhope. In the summers Thomas and wife lived in a cottage at Dalvay (which later was burned), and their two oldest children were born there. One of Thomas’ jobs was to teach the two MacDonald granddaughters, Helena and Laura, to ride, and his eldest daughter was named after Helena.
